Don’t miss the fun when the rodeo, ribfest and Red Ribbon Ride hit Waconia on
July 18.
For more than a decade, cyclists have logged roughly 300 miles across
southeastern Minnesota each summer as a part of The Red Ribbon Ride, which
raises money for local AIDS organizations. This will be the ride’s first year in
the southwest metro, with riders spending their final night of the four-day ride
in Waconia. Theresa Fetsch, executive director of the Red Ribbon Ride,
encourages Waconia community members to cheer on riders as they bike in on
Saturday afternoon and as they leave on Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, Mackenthun’s annual ribfest begins at 10 a.m. Saturday morning
outside Mackenthun’s Fine Foods, as contestants craft their best rendition of
the popular American meat. Judging and awards will conclude at 4 p.m.
Only a couple hours later, Waconia saddles up for the rodeo, beginning at
7:30 p.m. at the Carver County fairgrounds. The rodeo will feature multiple
classic extreme events and will partner with Hope Rides, an organization that
uses horses to develop skills and confidence in youth, to bring a rewarding and
entertaining night for community members.
