One local family’s trip to Italy inspired the pop-up restaurant Twisted Oak Pizza.
“Little did we know that the casual ‘what if’ and ‘we should’ at the family dinner table (often reminiscing about delectable Italian pizzas) would produce a spark bright enough to ignite a fire—a fire in a wood-fired pizza oven in our own back yard,” says Derrick Sheller, who started Twisted Oak with family members Dean, Linda and Lucas Scheller.
Twisted Oak Pizza made its debut at the Victoria Farmers Market at Hartman Garden Center in July, and it’s set up shop at various events throughout the southwest metro. It specializes in wood-fired pizzas, which are baked for about 90 seconds in a 900-degree oven.
Pizzas range from classic (margherita, pepperoni, from-scratch sausage) to gourmet (butternut squash with gorgonzola, beet with fresh horseradish or smoky BBQ chicken).
Prices start at $9 per 10-inch pizza. Throughout the summer, Twisted Oak also experimented with other wood-fired specialties, including giant chocolate chip cookies, waffles and more.
In addition to community events, Twisted Oak is available to cater private parties (starting at $15/person)—at least until the snow flies.
