Athletics and community service are two separate spheres for many people, but for Eden Prairie senior Blake Cashman, the two go hand in hand. In July, Cashman, a two-sport athlete and the captain of the Eden Prairie High School basketball team, connected his backgrounds in community service and sports to meet a need when he founded Athletes Answer to Hunger.

Athletes Answer to Hunger is a non-profit that works with athletic teams from around the Twin Cities to bring nutritious meals to those in need through a local company called Harvest Pack. The Eden Prairie football team worked with the organization last fall as a part of a seasonal service project, packing more than 10,500 meals in only a few short hours. “I just love the feeling you get when you see how much people appreciate it,” Cashman says. “You know you’re impacting their life somehow.”
