Seven years ago, Jason Lehman became a father. What he didn’t know is that his newborn daughter was not only a beautiful new addition to his family, but that she would spark Lehman’s interest in photography– a hobby that would allow him to capture his family’s intimate moments and also get recognized for his talents. Six years after the birth of his daughter, Lehman received third-place honors in the People and Families category of Southwest Metro Magazine’s 2012 photo contest. The candid photo, aptly named Dancing on the Beach, is of his now seven-year-old daughter, playing barefoot on the sandy shore of Lake Ann in Chanhassen, wearing bright yellow pants and a matching brown and yellow dress, as she swings her hands in the air. “It’s one of my favorite pictures of my daughter that I have taken,” Lehman says. His talents as a photographer have made Lehman the unofficial photographer for family gatherings, where he is now frequently asked to shoot photos. “It’s fun to take pictures of my family and say I took those pictures, and it wasn’t some other photographer,” he says.Enter your photos for the 2013 Southwest Metro photo contest through August 31.
