Photo Contest Winner: “Butterfly at the Arboretum,” by Christine Neff Kojetin
Christine Neff Kojetin, of Eden Prairie, and her family visit the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum at least three to five times a month during the summer for hiking and picnicking and—in Neff Kojetin’s case—to capture pictures of her children in a natural setting.
But last August, Neff Kojetin turned her lens to a bed of coneflowers filled with butterflies. Using a macro lens, Neff Kojetin didn’t have to wait long to capture a monarch butterfly that landed. “I liked the composition,” Neff Kojetin says, adding that she increased the color and vibrancy in post-production.
If you’re looking for an excuse to visit the arboretum this season—other than the gardens and the wildlife they attract—you won’t want to miss the Nature Connects: Art with LEGO Bricks exhibit that will be on display through August 30. Visit arboretum.umn.edu for details.
This photo won first place in the Wildlife & Nature category of our annual photo contest. We’re collecting entries for this year’s photo contest through August 31.
