Two decades ago, actress Michelle Barber played the widow Irene Molloy in Hello, Dolly! at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres. And this time around, the role will be played by her 25-year-old daughter, Cat Brindisi. “I’m anxious to see how she approaches the character,” says Barber, who will play the titular role, Dolly Levi, in the show opening September 5.
The show is a true family affair with Michael Brindisi (Barber’s husband and Cat’s dad) directing the musical. Barber and Michael met while working at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres in 1979, and they’re celebrating 30 years of marriage this year. Cat grew up performing at the theater, and she’s performed professionally at theaters throughout the Twin Cities, including the Guthrie Theater, since earning her bachelor of fine arts in acting at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
