Matchmaking is the purpose of a volunteer fair coming to Eden Prairie on April 23.
The GIVE Gathering – GIVE stands for Gather to Inspire Volunteer Engagement – is a free, open-house event from 6-8 p.m. that will showcase the diverse volunteer opportunities available at dozens of local organizations, mostly nonprofits.
Hundreds of people attend the annual volunteer fair, which is sponsored by the Eden Prairie Community Foundation, the City of Eden Prairie, and Eden Prairie Schools Community Education so that local residents looking for volunteer opportunities can be matched with volunteer openings at nonprofits and other organizations serving Eden Prairie.
Organizations that had volunteer opportunities on display last year include Bridging, Feed My Starving Children, Onward Eden Prairie, PeopleFest, PROP, The PROP Shop, TreeHouse, and many others. These nonprofits will have representatives on hand to explain their volunteer opportunities and whether those opportunities are best suited for youth, adults, groups, or others.
The theme of the volunteer fair is “Give 20 in 2020,” a reference to the fact that if you give 20 hours of volunteer time this year, you are making a huge difference. The organization Independent Sector estimates that each hour of volunteer time is worth an estimated $25.43, meaning that if you give 20 hours of volunteer this year by helping a local nonprofit, your work has an estimated value to the community of over $500.
The GIVE Gathering will be held in the Eden Prairie City Center Atrium and Heritage Rooms at 8080 Mitchell Road. All ages are invited, and you can stop in anytime between 6 and 8 p.m., when organizations will have information tables you can visit.
