Sometimes it doesn’t take much to make a big difference—at least that’s what Eden Prairie resident Chuck Martz says he learned during a trip to India with fellow Rotarians. Martz and members of Rotary District 5950 visited India last February as part of a Rotary Friendship Exchange. While they travelled, they were able to go see places like the Taj Mahal, but for the most part these Rotarians interacted with people from other international rotary clubs and participated in a variety of service projects, including vaccinating children against polio and a dedication ceremony for restroom facilities funded by the district. “We saw the highs and lows of India,” Martz says, adding that he was impressed by the generosity of the locals, despite their poor circumstances. The trip helped him understand that “a minimal amount of investment can bring about change,” he says.
