Seven years ago, Sarajo Wentling was looking for a stained glass class when she stumbled across a beading class at The Bead Monkey in Minneapolis. Right away, she was hooked. “I loved the mechanical aspect of using your hands and tools,” Wentling says.
Fast-forward several years, and she’s turned her passion for jewelry making into a full-blown business, Sj Designs Jewelry. Working with materials including natural brass, copper, and silver plate, Wentling constructs various one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry. She also uses gemstones, glass beads and other products made by local artists in her creations.
Wentling jewelry draws upon inspiration from other art, beautiful color palettes and the natural world.
Her favorite piece of jewelry to make? Earrings. “I’m totally an earring girl...you know my day has gone horribly, horribly wrong if you see me without earrings in,” she jokes.
Recently, she set out on a self-imposed earring challenge called “New Earring Monday.” Each Monday, Wentling creates a new unique set of earrings and writes about it on her blog.
