Meet Santa at the Arboretum in Chanhassen

Santa Claus makes a stop at the Arboretum.
Santa Claus bears a striking resembalnce to Bob Thorn, a full-time Arboretum employee.

Head out to the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum this holiday season, and you just might spot a big guy with a red suit, white beard, and love of sugar cookies.

It’s Santa Claus, of course. And he’s been making his seasonal trips to the Arboretum for more than 20 years. A beloved Santa in the area, visiting him doesn’t mean a quick stop for a photo: this Santa loves to read books with his little visitors and quizzes them on Christmas trivia in addition to hearing all about the gifts they hope to find under the tree.

In his spare time, Santa loves fishing, welding, and working on his cars, and spends the rest of the year helping out as a mechanic in the Arboretum shop taking care of all of the University’s equipment. And, of course, eating those cookies.

Visit Santa at the Arboretum, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Saturdays through December 22. Photos start at $5, with package options available. On December 12 and 19, bring your pet for a photo with Santa, 4–7 p.m. 3675 Arboretum Drive, Chaska; 952.443.1400.
