HomeTown Bank Block Party Celebrates Waconia Community

HomeTown Bank Waconia’s third annual community bash.
The Waconia Fire Department was a popular stop for the HomeTown Bank’s Passport to Fun event.

Kick off the summer with HomeTown Bank’s June block party. Enjoy family-friendly activities and entertainment presented by the bank and its resident coffee shop, Mocha Monkey, along with other area businesses.

Combining bank and coffee shop into one harmonious space was a vision to give a fresh take on banking and to attract more foot traffic and younger customers in an age of digital banking. “[T]he way we have it, you can’t tell where the bank ends and the coffee shop begins,” says personal banker Anne Traxler. “It’s very casual, friendly and laid back.” The space has become a prime place for folks to gather in Waconia, from group meetings to just socializing with friends.

The bank and coffee shop opened in December 2013 and held the first block party the following June to celebrate the grand opening. Since then, the community gathering has grown into an annual event to start off the summer.

This year’s block party will feature a variety of activities and entertainment, including a flip fest from Laketown Gymnastics and live music by Jason Paulson Band. There will be eats from various food trucks and the Lions Club will sell beer from Waconia Brewing Co. with proceeds benefitting the local food shelf. Children can see a firetruck and ambulance, get their faces painted and more. “People love it so much, and it’s not just for our customers, it’s for the community,” Traxler says.
