Whether she’s exploring Spain or serving people at a North Minneapolis church, Kathryn Secrest appreciates getting to see the world through different perspectives. The senior at Holy Family Catholic High School has spent her high school career connecting with people from all walks of life.
As a member of the school’s Lasallian Youth Club, Secrest sought out volunteer opportunities throughout the community, including a youth minister position for a peace dinner program at a North Minneapolis Church. “It was the best service project,” Secrest says, noting that it felt more like forming friendships than serving others. “You really got to know people on a first name basis.”
Last summer, Secrest traveled to Spain with a group from her school, and she hopes to do more travel and study abroad as a part of her college career. This fall, she’ll attend Northeastern University in Boston.
