Giggle, Giggle, Quack
Here's one for the "you-know-your-a-mom" files: When you see that "Giggle, Giggle, Quack" — one of your absolute favorite board books — is opening at Stages Theatre Company in Hopkins, and you get a little excited.
The children's theater is staging the world premiere of this play adapted from Doreen Cronin's best-selling book about a group of very intelligent farm animals. The show opens tonight and runs through May 13. Tonight also marks Kendra Fischer's acting debut.
The 10-year-old from Eden Prairie plays Benita, the youngest chicken, who looks up to the older, more experienced animals. While tonight will be Fischer's first time on stage, she says she's been acting "ever since I got my voice as a baby."
Fischer's been busy rehearsing for three hours every day (in addition to attending the fourth grade), but she says preparing for the play doesn't feel like work. "It's been a really fun time working with all my castmates because they're all hilarious," Fischer says. "If you're in a bad mood, you won't be in a bad mood for long."
And it sounds like that will apply to audience members, too. Fischer thinks the show will appeal to anyone who gets a kick out of practical jokes.
The show follows a group of farm animals who rule their roost when the farmer goes on vacation and leaves his brother in charge. Any child who's dreamed of tricking their babysitter into a later bedtime or a "double-dessert" night is sure to delight in the play.
