Discover Victoria Day
In anticipation of the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s 2012 project on Highway 5, the city of Victoria was planning an informational meeting to let residents know what to expect. But in the past those types of meetings have been a bit dry, notes Holly Kreft, Victoria’s Community Development Director.
So instead of a map-filled meeting, the City of Victoria is planning its first Discover Victoria Day, filled with attractions—and yes, information—for the entire family. “We really wanted to connect with residents,” Kreft says, adding that it was important to make the event family-friendly.
The event goes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (September 24) at the Victoria Recreation Center, 8475 Kochia Ln. The business expo and resource fair will feature at least 45 local vendors, plenty of information about the plans for Highway 5 and kid-friendly activities, including a bounce house, pictures with the Carver County Mounted Posse and more. There will also be some demonstrations on variety of topics, such as eco-friendly living and nutrition. “What we really wanted to do is let people know what’s in their own backyard,” Kreft says.
