Sick of the ubiquitous summer uniform of a t-shirt and jeans? We asked three local boutiques—Houndstooth in Eden Prairie, The Hanger in Chanhassen and Needful Things in Chaska—to refresh the old standard with inspired looks for the season.

Houndstooth

Amber Toste, owner of Houndstooth in Eden Prairie, says one of her favorite colors for the summer is purple—in this case, lilac lavendar.  She created a fun look for the season with a pair of skinny jeans from J Brand, $187, and a white tee from Chaser LA, $44, then punches up the impact with a vibrant orange-and-leopard-print hat, $390, by Eugenia Kim.

Toste is proud that the store is unique to the community (Houndstooth is the only high-end independently owned women’s boutique in Eden Prairie). The shop opened in July 2011 and specializes in premium clothing and accessories from popular brands, such as Hudson Jeans, Joie, Wildfox Couture, Rebecca Minkoff and many more. Currently there are two store locations, one in Eden Prairie and another in Savage. Houndstooth, 582 Prairie Center Dr. No. 223, Eden Prairie; 952.261.2974; houndstoothboutique.com
