Waconia’s Star Power is a Singing Success
Well before Glee became a television hit, choir students at Waconia had already discovered the joy of vocal competitions. The school’s competitive show choir, called Power Company, mixes a cappella vocals with choreography and competes throughout the country along with their 17-piece band. This month, music lovers have a chance to see Power Company, along with 15 to 25 other choirs from throughout the Midwest, in action, as they perform in the 8th annual Star Power competition hosted at Waconia High School. Choirs will be performing all day long with a finals concert in the evening. “There’s such a positive feeling,” Waconia High School Director of Vocal Music Aaron Olson says of the day. “We’re all here to see great shows… It’s pretty exciting to see how the choirs support each other.”
