Cast your fishing lines into Lake Waconia with Governor Mark Dayton on May 12 when the Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener comes to town. This year’s opener marks the second time in 64 years that the event has landed in the metro area, and there will be plenty of events throughout the city of Waconia in honor of the big weekend.

The festivities start at 3:30 p.m. May 11 with a free community picnic, complete with live music, kids’ fishing activities and more. On May 12, avid anglers with invitations can join the governor at Lake Waconia for the opener itself, and residents can enjoy fishing throughout the lakes.

And fishing widows need not be left out of the fun—they can catch big deals while indulging in some retail therapy at the 8th Annual Sister Saturday in downtown Waconia.
