As most people would expect from two born and raised Minnesotans, niceness is what won over Abby and Dane Refsland of Eden Prairie in the selection of their wedding venue. “After visiting 13 or 14 places,” Abby says, “Linda Jessen, who works at Hazeltine, was the nicest, and they were the most accommodating.”

The couple, which met at a Christmas party at Local in Minneapolis where Dane wore a hideous sweater, Abby recalls, had planned on an outdoor ceremony for their May event, but changed course due to rain and instead recited their vows in Hazeltine’s pre-function hall. Later, the celebration moved into the newly remodeled clubhouse, where approximately 280 guests dined, danced and toasted the bride and groom. “It was really a stress-free day for us,” Abby says, “and I don’t think many couples can say that about their wedding.”

Reception tables were adorned with hot pink table runners and centerpieces of wheatgrass and branches. Other highlights included an entrée of chicken stuffed with brie and apples, cupcakes instead of traditional wedding cake and late-night snacks of pizza, potato chips and chocolate chip cookies. “We did things pretty basic, but Hazeltine made it really special,” Abby says, adding that the golf club has a nice bridal suite and even provided snacks for the wedding party while they got ready.
